NetSuite Claude harness docs
A Claude Code plugin for Oracle's NetSuite AI Connector. It caches metadata, keeps big results out of context and checks SuiteQL before it runs.
On this page
su-ns-harness is a Claude Code plugin for Oracle's NetSuite AI Connector Service. The connector still does the talking to NetSuite. The plugin runs code before and after every call Claude makes to it. Report lists, saved searches and field metadata are cached on your machine. A large result is saved to a file, and Claude gets a summary instead of the raw rows. SuiteQL is checked before it goes out, errors come back with a next step, and creates and updates stay blocked until you turn them on.
It runs in Claude Code only: the CLI, the Code tab in the Claude desktop app, or an IDE extension. Cowork and claude.ai can install the plugin, but they don't run plugin hooks, so there's no caching, no SuiteQL checks and no write protection there.
Oracle publishes a skill for the connector, netsuite-ai-connector-instructions, and this plugin's netsuite skill is derived from it. A skill is only text, though. It can ask Claude to be careful, but it can't change what the connector sends back. The plugin's four hooks can.
Who it's for
NetSuite admins, developers and finance people who already use the NetSuite AI Connector from Claude Code. If you've watched Claude fill its context with a 3,000-row query, or hand back a top-20 list built from the wrong rows, those are the two problems this plugin was written for.
What it doesn't do
- It adds no MCP server. The connector is still the only thing that talks to NetSuite.
- It makes no network calls of its own and runs no background process.
- It doesn't touch the connector's configuration or OAuth.
- It installs no npm packages. The code is one bundled file that imports only Node's built-in modules. See Security.
- It writes only to its own data directory under
~/.claude/plugins/data/, and to your project only when you export something. - It doesn't run outside Claude Code. See Troubleshooting.

Credits
The NetSuite team at Oracle built the AI Connector Service and the MCP Standard Tools SuiteApp that this plugin sits in front of. They also wrote and published the netsuite-ai-connector-instructions skill, under the Universal Permissive License 1.0. Its tool order, output format, currency handling and SuiteQL checklist are the base of this plugin's netsuite skill. The NOTICE file in the repository credits it and lists every change we made. Oracle documents the skill in Using Skills with Claude, ChatGPT, and Other MCP Clients.
This plugin is an independent project. It isn't affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by Oracle.
Start here
- Installation: what you need in NetSuite and Claude Code, then two install commands.
- Quickstart: your first session, the Profile Card, and a worked "top 20 customers by open AR" example.
- How it works: the four hooks, the cache, and what happens to large results.
- Why a plugin, not a skill: which checks run as code on every call, and how that differs from Oracle's skill.
- Commands: the three slash commands and the
nsxCLI. - Settings: every setting, its default, and how to change it.
- SuiteQL checker: every rule the checker applies and how to override a false positive.
- Writes and approvals: why writes are off, and what happens when you turn them on.
- Security: no npm packages at install or runtime, what the code can reach, and how to check it yourself.
- Data and privacy: what's stored where, and for how long.
- Troubleshooting: hooks that don't fire, split caches, rate limits and auth errors.
- Changelog: what changed in each release.
